Joining a CTF From a Course

Abstract

Virginia Cyber Range instructors may choose to create a Cloud CTF environment exclusively available to students within their course. This type of Cloud CTF is known as a private CTF. This article details how to join a private CTF from a Virginia Cyber Range course. If you received a link to join a public CTF, please refer to the section titled Public CTF Environment in our Getting Started in Cloud CTF article.

How To Join a CTF From a Course

  1. First, you'll need to login to your Virginia Cyber Range account. Please refer to the article titled How to Login to the Cyber Range for instructions on how to do this.

    The Login Button is found in the top right section of the homepage next to the Sign Up Button.

  2. Next, please click on the appropriate course that contains the CTF environment.

    Your courses are listed under the header "My Courses" on the left.

  3. Once you have navigated to your course, click on the Cloud CTF environment.

    Available exercises are listed under the header "Exercise Groups" within the course.

  4. Next, click on the Join My Environment button to open up the CTF in a new tab of your browser.

    The Join My Environment button is located to the right of the environment description.

  5. Once you have successfully made it to the starting screen, please click on Enter to begin participating in the CTF.

    The Enter button is located under the CTF's availability dates.
